Let my students speak for myself…
My first experience with another company did not go too well and I decided to switch to a freelance instructor. I heard about Hugo at Nanaimo Flying Club. He happened to be the perfect fit for me from the first second in flight with him. We actually did a 30-minute free flight and I knew right from the beginning I wanted him as my instructor. As a slow learner I know I am not an easy student, but he is very patient both on the ground and in the aircraft, which makes me comfortable and relaxed. He understands where I come from and that’s a major point for me. I live in Duncan and I appreciate he accommodates with other students to make himself available for lessons when I need time for the drive.

I had tried another instructor who got easily scared and stressed out, so I decided to give it a try with Hugo. Great move indeed, Hugo seems to be more experienced and comfortable in my aircraft. He’s a very laid back and personable kind of instructor and he’s always available by text, email or in-person when I have questions or I get confused in my study. I just wish I could attend ground school with him. Can’t wait for the students resources on the website!
My husband is a private pilot and owns a PA28 Cherokee. I wanted to get my licence too at least to be less passive in flight an do some navigation or radio. We bumped into Hugo and talked to him at Victoria airport on a Sunday afternoon, he was giving someone his business card, right on our way to a flight school to get information for me. We actually never met anyone from the flight school, we decided to stick with Hugo. He has been my instructor for a few months now and I’m happy this coincidence happened. He’s very personable, friendly, and obviously enjoys doing what he does, which brings me motivation and a greater desire to achieve my project. My husband is planning to do his night rating and VFR OTT and will probably upgrade with Hugo.

ugo has been my instructor a while ago in Lower Mainland after I switched from a flight school in San Francisco and settled downtown Vancouver. I must say it was a pleasure and a lot of fun to fly with him and I passed my PPL at first shot. I owe him my flying skills and I’m sure I have learned with him things I wouldn’t have with other instructors. I used his skills and services again recently to get checked on a new aircraft I share with friends. He is humble enough to recognize when he can’t answer a question but always does his homework and quickly gets back to you with the right answers. I would recommend Hugo to anyone who needs a really dedicated instructor.
I bought a C172 a few months ago and decided to do my training with Hugo after I met and flew with an old student of his. As a very busy entrepreneur, I often struggle to find time to fly and the schedule is always tricky. But Hugo has always adjusted well and made himself available for me, which I really appreciate. I have no doubt he’s setting me for success. Thanks, Hugo for your dedication.

ugo has been a tremendous help and a true mentor when I was struggling with my PPL and the written that I wanted to complete before the worst of the winter season. He accepted to help me review and we did a few flights to brush up before the flight test. I am now a proud and happy private pilot and would have done my CPL with him if my job had not forced me to move from the island. I enjoyed my time with Hugo who seems to treat everyone as a VIP. I wish him all the best in his new freelance career.
